In this guide we will explain how to receive and make child support payments in Tennessee. To do this we will follow a series of simple step-by-step instructions.
Child Support Tennessee Payments
In order to ensure that the children’s financial requirements are addressed, the Child Support Program works with both the custodial parent and the non-custodial parent. Payment distribution and collection services are offered. Both the custodial parent and the non-custodial parent must maintain their contact information current. Your neighborhood child support office should be notified of any changes to your residence, place of work, or phone number.
How to Receive Child Support TN Payments?
The first installment of child support will arrive in the mail as a check for the custodial parents. A debit card will be sent to the custodial parent after the first payment. The custodial parent must contact the number on the back of the debit card as soon as they get it to activate it. Once authorized, child support payments will be charged to the debit card account of the parent who has custody.
Debit Card To Receive Payments
Custodial parents are given the Tennessee Way2Go Card, a MasterCard Debit Card, to access their child support payments. The custodial parent now has a simple, secure, and safe method of receiving child support payments.

How to Pay Child Support TN?
There are several ways to pay Child Support Tennessee both in person and online. Let’s go over each method of payment.
Mail the Support Payments
To pay by mail you must make your check or money order payable to Tennessee Child Support and mail it to the following address:
- State Disbursement Unit
- P.O. Box 305200
- Nashville, TN 37229
To ensure that payments are allocated to the appropriate child support case, the following information must be included with payments sent to the State Disbursement Unit (SDU):
- Name and Docket Number for the Non-Custodial Parent.
- Number for Social Security.
Non-custodial parents should include the proper identifying information specified above on their check or money order, or return the payment coupon they got from the Department of Human Services (DHS) with their payments. Payments that are not correctly recognized cannot be handled.
Order for Income Withholding
An Income Withholding Order (IWO) is a directive that the non-custodial parent’s employer receives from the court or Child Support Office. It gives the employer detailed information on how much should be deducted from the non-custodial parent’s salary in order to pay the required child support. The employer automatically deducts the required child support, which is then sent to the State Disbursement Unit for disbursement to the custodial parent. Until the Income Withholding Order is implemented by the employer, it is the non-custodial parent’s obligation to transfer the payment to the State Disbursement Unit.
