NY Child Support Process

According to federal and New York State law, regulation, and policy, the Child Support Program will offer the child support services that are appropriate for your situation.

Services may be offer to you with your help and cooperation for as long as child support payments are owed. As needed, the following procedures are provided:

1. Obtaining information on the Other Party’s location, including residences, job, other sources of income and assets, and health-care coverage.

2. Parentage for a kid is established through a voluntary acknowledgement procedure or a court-based process.

3. Establishment and/or modification of Child support NY order, including health insurance coverage or financial medical support from either parent, if available.

4. The Support Collection Unit collects and distributes child support or combined child and spousal support, including educational expenditures, child care expenses, and cash medical support.

5. Child support enforcement NY process: with Income withholding from wages, benefits, or other income; federal and state tax refund intercept; seizure of assets and lottery winnings; credit bureau reporting; suspension of the noncustodial parent’s New York State driver license; and referral to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for collection that use all methods to enforce support obligations. The Child Support Program also enforces court-ordered health insurance coverage.
